Chapter 83

Celebrate Your Little Victories Too

Today's Empowering Quote

"One great difference between a wise man and a fool is, the former only wishes for what he may possibly obtain; the latter desires impossibilities."
--Democritus

Today's Empowering Question
------------------------------

"What can I do today that will get me closer to my larger ambition?"

Today's Fast Session
------------------------------

It is your right as a living human being to set a goal, be able to work for it and achieve it.

One reason most people don't reach their ambitions is that they fail to set small milestone goals; weekly, daily, hourly.

To use the baseball analogy, you can score a lot of runs by doing nothing except hitting singles.  A home run gets the biggest applause, but you can't reach your outcomes by only swinging for the fence.

I was able to rise up from years of failure by giving myself daily and hourly goals.

Sexy? Hardly.

Always fun? Not really.

But they were effective.  Partly because every day I  could look back and see that I had accomplished the tasks I had set forth for the day... which, by the way, tied in to my bigger goals.

Now that's sexy.

You simply can't reach a big goal without lots of little tasks that take you down the road to reaching it.

If you just internalize this one thing, you'll be able to conquer bad habits that heretofore have beaten you bloody.

If you want to stop smoking or overeating, for example, quit for an hour. If you accomplish that, you have something for your Victory Log.  Then do another hour.

Of course, it CAN be more complicated than that.

Maybe you don't feel particularly worthy to join the ranks of the non-smokers and thin people of the world.  That's a self-image issue.  But if you want to get to it the fastest way, set a goal each hour.

If you do that, you can achieve 16 goals per day in your waking hours and get on a tremendous roll.  If you've never gotten that kind of momentum going, it's a high I can't fully describe.  You've got to experience it yourself.  I smoked for nearly 20 years, nearly 10 of those at about a pack and a half a day.  And it's a minute by minute fight until you win, not a daily fight.

Set some small, more easily achievable goals and see how easy it is compared to looking at some big unimaginable mountain you want to climb.

Remember, break things down in bite-sized chunks and you can do anything you want...

Anything.
