prepare himself to the battle?"

Today's Fast Session
------------------------------
Harvard University researcher, Robert Rosenthal, did a
study on a number of elementary school teachers. He went
to the schools and informed the teachers that he was going
to give their students a test that would identify academic
potential... But the test was a hoax.
Instead, he chose the students randomly and told the
teachers that the students he identified were brilliant...that they were geniuses. These students would definitely
excel, he told the teachers, if they were given support and
guidance. By the end of the school year, the majority of those
students had improved their IQ scores and their grades had
improved dramatically... And some of those students happened to have been some of
the worst students up until that point. These teachers
were given no special training. All they knew was that
they had some "stars" among them.
Rosenthal performed the same tests with college
professors, and the results were just as dramatic.
This is known as the Pygmalion effect, so named after a
story in Greek mythology. The Pygmalion effect is real. It's working every day, every minute... either for us or
against us. So here is the situation...
Here you are, with your career and your family and all the
other things that make up your life. And you may excel in
one or more areas. Maybe you're even the head of a large
organization. But it doesn't matter if you're on the
bottom or the top. This incredible force called negative
expectation is no doubt working against you in some form in
one or many areas of your life.
How?
Your past scripting, or past experience, has "taught" you
that people you know are going to perform in expected ways.
When you meet people, you'll place your imagined level of
expectation on them based on their appearance, their
vocabulary, what you've heard about them, their education
level, their tone of voice... could be any number of things.
In an inordinate number of cases, the people in our lives
will perform exactly as we expect them to... because we
treat them how we see them. You need to raise your expectations of the people you meet
and know. Expect people to follow through. Expect them to
excel. All people. Treat them in ways that show what you
expect. Tell your "team" members that you think they're
champions, that they can succeed, that you're committed to
them and to their growth...and your own.
Ever hear of Marva Collins, arguably the greatest teacher
in history? She treats ALL her students as if they could
become the President some day.
After becoming disillusioned with the Chicago public
school system she taught in for 14 years, she started her
own school in her own home. Since then, she has taken kids
labeled retarded and un-teachable. She's provided them
with love, compassion and understanding. She has a firm
belief that each student will learn. She absolutely will
not let them fail. Failing is not an option.
What she has achieved is miraculous.
To learn more about Marva Collins, you can read her books.
A movie about her life was made, starring Cicely Tyson.

While we're helping bring out the best in others, what
about you? Don't think I forgot about you. This is really about you.
You can't bring out the best in anybody if you don't even
believe in YOUR own abilities. Take the empowering beliefs
at the bottom of this letter. Read them every day with
conviction and belief that you are the person you're
affirming to be.
Expect more from yourself than mediocrity. Expect
greatness. And just as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, you'll
become that person. You'll persuade yourself to want to be
even more. And in the process, you'll have what you truly
want in this life, no matter what it is you desire.
After all, how do you think great teachers, mentors and
coaches bring out the best in others?
They encourage, inspire, push, cheer lead, teach and love.
Through the repetitive daily reading of the most empowering
beliefs, you'll become your own best success coach.
And it's only then that you can begin to reach out and
teach what you know... and change the world.
