Chapter 90

It's Official: Nothing Is Impossible

------------------------------
Today's Empowering Quote
------------------------------

"A lot of people didn't believe in us, but our players believed in themselves and that's all that matters."
-Bill Belichick, head coach, New England Patriots

------------------------------
Today's Empowering Question
------------------------------

"Have others been counting me out?  Have I?  Why have we all been wrong?"

------------------------------
Today's Fast Session
------------------------------

It's now official.

Nothing is impossible.

The second largest underdog in Super Bowl history has won.

David slew Goliath.

All the doubters were wrong... including me.

All week long, every time I got into a conversation about the upcoming game, I expressed how I felt that the Rams were just too good, spouting off facts and statistics, marveling at all those high-powered weapons they possessed...

...forgetting all about desire.

The burning kind.

That is one thing most everyone, including yours truly forgot about.

Look at yourself for a second...

It's easy to count yourself out, isn't it, when no one believes in you?

Isn't it hard to go on when all you see is insurmountable problems?

The Patriots refused to look at how impossible their task seemed.

Instead they looked at their strengths.  They focused on what they had, not what they didn't.  They had that burning desire.

Adam Vinatieri, the Patriot kicker who ended any final doubt with a 48-yard field goal as time expired, said his sleep the night before the game was filled with dreams about that exact moment, should it occur.

He said after the game, "I must have seen that kick 200 times the night before in my sleep. It always ended good."

If you're not a football fan, that's OK.  This isn't about football.

But if you've got a big challenge ahead of you and you have lots of doubts about the outcome, do this...

...Read this past Sunday's newspaper.  The same one where all the experts said that there was no way the Rams would lose.

This is important, because you must understand how futile the task seemed, how invincible the Rams seemed, how the Patriots didn't deserve to be there. One journalist even predicted that the Rams would score over 100 points.

It supposedly was that hopeless.

So I ask you to read this because you must know that when things look bleak for you and for people on your team, you must not give up...

...No matter how seemingly impossible the task.

To flip your switch from lose to win, you must be a possibility thinker. And the only way to do that is to constantly be reminded in as many ways as possible that nothing is impossible.

Ignite that burning desire.

Moods and shifts and cycles and tides and momentum threaten us every single day.  They can take away our beliefs and our convictions.

Try this habit out.  In your local paper's sports section, save the stories of underdogs beating heavily favored opposition.

Re-read them regularly.

And set your goals.

Whenever you make a mistake, a wrong decision, or when someone counts you out, pull the stories out and reaffirm a new belief...

Nothing is impossible!

Even for you.
